Thanks for the reply mate, just hope its as good as it looks/sounds when i finally get it.As ive never owned one before i was hooked after going for a short ride in my mates wrx the other day,i couldnt believe how much it pinned me back in the seat, the acceleration in first geartook my breath away and i just had to have one.Is there any difference between the wagon and saloon performance wise, also could anyone tell me the differences between the uk and import cars, and the pros and cons of both as i dont have a clue.SOORY for all the questions but im a scoob noob so need all the help i can get fellas..THANKS.

Re: Tempted by this guys, what do you think?

Uk`s are usually cheaper to insure/less powerful and "on the whole" i`d say less trouble, not that they`re perfect by any means gearboxes on uk`s arent great and i know few ppl thats not had some problem at some stage.

To drive the classic wrx`s are better, uk`s are more laid bk generally and you`d find ya can get caught out at around std power with a uk by cars you really wouldnt expect to have trouble with once rolling.

In my opinion even though i own a uk i`d say buy a wrx if you can find a good one with reasonable history-bought mine purely based on insurance at the time(made a big difference then) without really driving any faster scoobys-deliberately if im honest, if i`d have drove an sti i`d have wanted it and as it were Dean a mate of mine owned a uk an after driving thought that`l be fast enough for me-but always felt like it were a compromise if im honest.

That said 6yr on ive still got it so it must be doin something right

Re: Tempted by this guys, what do you think?

No probs mate,if you ask elsewhere dont be put off by ppl saying theyre hard to get parts for-they`re not-also when i bought mine were alot of ppl saying nobody wants to service them etc because the parts were so hard to come by-but i think the majority of ppl stick to impreza specialists anyway when they need work done they cant do themselves-the only things to watch really are maf sensors on early scoobys are about 250 (uk or wrx)and theres a few imports kicking about(if i remember right)with digital climate control in if that packs up could be awkward to source a replacement.

Doubt you`d have much trouble sourcing anything else theres plenty being broke up.

Servicings not expensive either to be honest-just becomes a headache (scoobys in general this is)if ya need engine work done as its not goin to be cheap.

Couple of places to check service parts prices if youre interested

Re: Tempted by this guys, what do you think?

there isn't anything in particular to look for, its like any car, anything can go wrong....you can find one impreza that is imaculate and you own it for a month and something goes wrong.

Check the Buying Checklist I posted above and just make sure its got plenty of history, lots of stamps and looks like it has been cared for.

Regular Oil change (check what oil he uses). Has been run on High Octane fuel (again, what fuel) if you really want ask him what price he is paying a litre for fuel (anyone running high octane should be able to tell you within a penny....will catch anyone out that is trying to bluff you)

Imprezas do have noisy engines but listen for grinding noises and anything that doesn't sound right.

Check the gear change from 3rd down to 2nd

Make sure the engine is cold when you get there. Tell him before you go to look that you don't want it to have been started (sure sign something isn't right)

Take along an independent person who wan't be looking through rose tinted glasses

and remember, its your money, if you are not 100% just walk away.

Re: Tempted by this guys, what do you think?

yeah this looks a nice scoob but be aware that engines with this sort of mileage tend to let go at around 75000 .They are notorius for this with the bottom end going at this sought of age I am not trying to put you off ownership but just make you aware of the facts a rebuild will cost you what you will pay for the car my advice is buy a car with as little modifications as possible do not buy a car that has not being mapped to support any modifications that have been added to engine or it could cost you dearly. Have a good look for any signs of previous accident damage.
If you decide to part with your hard earned for your first impreza dont be in a rush do your homework look at buying from a reputable source get a warranty if possible ,you wont get this buying private , there are a lot of imprezas for sale at the moment and prices are good . I hope i dont sound like i am steering you away from the model because that is not my intention i have just had expeirience of what can happen .If you choose to buy you will not regret it but if you buy wrong you will .Half the fun of owning an impreza is improving it so thats why i would buy a unmodified example own it and enjoy it dont regret it they are fantastic cars but can be expensive .
