Tempted....but is it too cheap?

Its just down the road....looks good....but cheap? What is the general thought? It says engine needs attention, but at that price I'm guessing it would need a fair bit....

Buy one that is problem free... If seller is unable to afford to sort out engine... what else has been ignored because of lack of funds?... Never buy a car with a story IMHO

If you do jump in... budget 4k for engine and other work... so that brings car up to 7.5 k not such a bargain!!

If something seems to good to be true... it usually is!!

Hope this helps

What needs to be done to the engine? as said above to good to be true be a good bargain if she was a 100% straight car with loads of service history and engine perfect

Re: Tempted....but is it too cheap?

Remember I bought my car cheap.. but saying that I would have still bought it even if I had known what I know now. Engine has been repaired "just " before I bought it by all looks of it. Had ONE piston replaced..so had it gone before. Nothing else had been replaced.

but if he had said that to me I would have knocked him a bit more off and taken it straight for a proper rebuild.

Its not bad as long as you budget for a full or partial rebuild. Look at a perfectly straight one and look at the price and work out if you having to repair the engine will take you to more or less than the running one.

although saying that I would be more pissed off if I had paid full price for mine and then it went bang. Even when fixed my car will only have cost me 6k and I will know the engine is good then.

Re: Tempted....but is it too cheap?

aye assume it will need a rebuild 2.5k min for a proper job, or more if you want to

but for the price if ithe rest of the car is straight and tidy might be worth it at 3k.

they seem to go for around 5.5k to 9k, the high being a touch optimistic.

i think doing it will cost you more than the other sup for sale, but, get the engine built properly witha warrenty of a few months and might save you in the long run.

Re: Tempted....but is it too cheap?

don't quote me on this.....but, i'm sure i have seen this advertised in the last 2 weeks with extra information in the advert...........something about loss of pressure in no. 2 and 3 cylinders and a pressure test having been done or something??. i skipped over it as it did not interest me (am currently looking for an RA or type-r). i think the advert has been edited since.
........but don't quote me....it just rings bells. perhaps it could be the first question you ask when phoning up?
