Engine query

After several phone calls to several specialists today, been told that I can not just buy a engine even from another sti and just put it in.

any ideas why???

you can,unless they are on about mapping the ecu...to suit the new unit..

complete unit or just the block??

depends what year, you'd need all the parts including loom etc to do it, but you'd be far better off rebuilding it

Thats wot i like about this site, always learning new things here. (not that i know much anyway about cars) Would have thought you could just buy replacement engine & stick it in

mounting points are the same, just the electrics, hawkers have the drive by wire to get round as well

What has failed in your engine? Rebuild only way to go IMHO

What internals have failed? Have you had a diagnosis yet from expert? Suggest you get car checked and find out what has failed before you take next step

rebuild is not an option as need a new block. Looking at a engine from API. Gotta price in a ecu and remap too.

I am hoping if I get another engine with same engine code that it will be quite simple to swap. Confused really as to how my cars been okay for 3 years without a remap though.

its at my mates garage. He hasnt had whole engine out yet but I have a hole in the block. I have told him no hurry as I havent got the cash together for new engine yet.

So he is basically doing it as and when.
