boost problem - stutter/judder under boost occuring
Hey guys... new to the site and needing help already on my first topic!
![]() okay... problems started to occur latly with MY00 turbo 2000 when spooling up to boost, it starts to judder and stutter... like a misfire... but will drive normally in any other case up till boost... no engine warning lights and temp has remained the same... New to subaru's... have checked all piping and all seems attached and solid fom what i can see without removing parts although could be a split in the hosing. removed MAF while idling... neva cut out but did stutter asthough would stall. someone mentioned the boost solenoid but have no idea how to clean this! also upon further reading... knock sensor? possible bit of dodgy fuel making the knock sensor act up on boost? except there is no warning lights coming up on dash a little lost here, car did a 200mile journey the weekend before with no problems. any idea's guys? would a diagnostic show this problem? cheers, any help appreciated in advance |

Re: boost problem - stutter/judder under boost occuring
Hi and welcome along to the site,
Your symptoms seem to point towards a dodgy plug gap or failing dispack if it was a early classics but i think yours has the later single coil pack and leads off? Your right in believing the mafs are iffy on ur year, You can clean your boost solenoid with carb/brake cleaner. hth |

![]() yeah plugs and coil pack have been mentioned, although on other sites i have asked this seems to be a recurring problem and plug change makes no difference which is a bit gutting. yes my coil pack is situated on top of the block with leads coming off each corner... any way i can tell if this is faulty? been told this a number of times with the MAF but would a diagnostic check on the laptop show this even though no warning light on the dash? to clean the boost solenoid... is it just a case of taking off the hosing, removing the part, cleaning with brake cleaner and allowing to air off, then attaching it all back up? Hi, pretty simple to clean BS out, yes to whipping the pipes off( make a note of where you took them from) then under the steering wheel there is 2 black and 2 green connectors, join them together and you will hear the boost solenoid opening and closing and the fans coming on and going off, spray your cleaner in while these connectors are together, then remove connectors and re assemble your pipework, Spark plug gaps can make a big diff to how the car runs, so even of you change the plugs they may be set at too high a gap, 0.7 iirc is the correct gap for standard boost. edited to add plug gap is 0.7 - 0.8 on autodata Last edited by bugeye_bob; 31 Mar 2009 at 09:21 AM. |

Re: boost problem - stutter/judder under boost occuring
the misses old man is a manager at a mechanics garage so he is goin to have a word with the diagnostic technicion today to see if he has any free time this evening to plug it in... hopefully this will show something!
if the "check engine" light does not activate on the dash, by plugging the conectors under the steering columb and turning on the ignition, would this show any faults by giving the code in flashing lights? also which connectors is this as i have herd there is 2 green and 2 black connectors but have not looked. one this is done could i simply just disconnect them? wouldnt like to connect these plugs and find i have immobilised the car |
