New WRX - Running In

Hello all, i finally got the car today (my first ever brand new car ) well chuffed..... However, i have been told not to go over 4000rpm until 1000 miles... How do i do it?

Is this strickly true? could the odd boost make a difference?

I'm missing the looks of the previous car already  as i truly think the original is better looking but i done it for a trouble free motoring (3 years) cos of the baby due... thats justifies it doesnt it?

good on you bud, may i be the first to welcome the new wheels to the clan

steady on with that foot, they will do all they can to say youve thrashed it if it goes bang!

1000 miles isnt much, tempting as it is, take it steady for the first 999 miles then give it some!

Nice to hear you have taken delivery....just remember that the shape of the car isn't everything

As for the 1000 mile run in- - play it by the book mate. I can imagine temptation is very high for wanting to use boost and more than 4K rpm but don't you will only benefit in the long run....lucky you It will be well worth the wait

Interesting topic this one. picked up my new WRX a couple of weeks ago now. Manual says "1000 miles not exceeding 4000 rpm" but the dealer said "no running in period necessary, all we ask is that you don't hit the red line before the 6,000km oil change." So, Ive be giving her some... big time !! It'll be interesting to see if it makes any difference in the longer term, but one thing Ive noticed is that fuel economy is improving rapidly. Gave her a good thrashing on my second tank of fuel, got 340km's from a tank. This week, got 470 km's from a tank and that included a 60 hammering around country lanes (when I can actually see the fuel guage dropping !! ) I also have it on good authority that the engines are bedded down on the dyno and red lined before they leave the factory, so perhaps the "1000 not exceeding 4000" is just additional butt covering by the manufacturers?? But Gareth, before u go "ooh.. I'll do the same thing... Yeeehhhaaa".... my car is on a 3 year lease, so im not too worried about the long term effects...

Ok thanks for the post suggs. I see your point about the three year lease.... Will be interesting to find out more about this..... They must redline to car for testinf purposes before leaving lovly japan? I'll try and find out some further information too and report back.

Good news about the fuel too.

All the best

Gareth

point to remember, its not just the engine that needs running in! gearbox, diffs, bearings, drivers seat!
Give it the time it needs, youve just comitted to a lot of money, ok its under warrenty but do you want to be without it while its in the garage?
