Samco Hoses

Anybody know of anyone with samco hoses fitted?

http://www.samcosport.com/samco.asp?make=subaru

Know a bloke who's dad works in the factory (can get them cheap) - just wanted to know if anybody rates them?

Gareth,

The Samco hoses are well-respected in the States, and generally recognised as a worthwhile mod. Perrin also makes the same hoses, but thicker-walled and a bit pricier. GP Moto is another silicone hose maker for Subies. I can't recommend the GP Moto hoses, as I don't kow anything about them. But, I can certainly recommend either of the other two. As far as the y-pipe under the factory intercooler...I think the APC cast discharge duct may be an even better option than the silicone hoses.

PS...I', still trying to locate that Solidworks CD, Gareth. I may have lent it to a friend. I check with him and see...

Hello Richard,

Thats great... The factory is about 5 mins down the road! The APS cast discharge duct seems like a good mod i agree, good to see the uk dealers on there too

No worries about the solidworks cd, if you do get it let me know..... all the best/

A buddy of mine has the Samco inlet hose and intercooler hose on his WRX and they have worked very well for him. Just a warning though, the Samco inlet pipe can be a pain in the butt to install, at least for non-mechanic types like myself. :P

Vishnu also makes silicone hoses which are very high quality, I have the Vishnu intercooler y pipe and it made a slight power difference over stock.

I don't know too much about the APS intercooler pipe, but it looks like a great part.

I completely agree, it really dresses up the engine bay.

I am planning to install a grounding kit soon, those look nice also.

My prev WRX had complete sets of Smaco fitted - Turbo and Coolant pipework

I have the Turbo Hoses on my current Scoob but had to change th Dump Valve pipe for a standard Black rubber one to fit my HKS SQV BOV. I will change the coolant pipes to Samco when I next flush and replace the coolant.......they are a much stronger more flexible hosing.

Nelson, were you happy with the HKS sqv BOV? (that is a lot of initials isn't it?) :P

and how many pounds of boost are you running? the reason I ask is I have trouble with my GFB BOV because under partial throttle when I shift or let off the gas it tends to "chatter", almost like compressor surge. I think it's because I am not running enough boost (currently 14psi max), to completely open the valve.

what do you think?

Very happy with the HKS to be honest Gears - best mod so far

Well my car is only running about 14.5psi and the HKS responds very well to whatever level of boost I use. I get a sort of chatter if I am gentle with the throttle and more of a Chirp/Whoosh when I am more heavy footed. The thing to remember with the HKS is it is different to the conventional design....it has dual stage pull type relief valves rather than a push design that don't leak under boost conditions or under idle vacuum. The valve is actuated by pressure alterations to ensure a quick primary and secondary valve response. One valve is used when light throttle and the other when using heavy throttle. To me it sounds like your valve is doing what the HKS is doing. How does the car drive tho' ?
