She seems to be holding back in 5th..

Hi all,

My MY99 Turbo2000 yesterday seemed to be pulling back in 5th gear. To describe it, its kind of like a pulsating pull for a second then not, then pull again, then not etc.

2nd seemed to be ok didn't get to try 3rd and 4th..

Any help is most appreciated.

cheers
Angelo.

Re: She seems to be holding back in 5th..

sounds like the increased airflow at speed is giving you overboost, assuming you were on a private track what sort of speed were you doing?

Re: She seems to be holding back in 5th..

I wasn't going that fast just pulling between 65ish.. to 85 ish.. (on the private track).

Do you think the fact that I have a sports cat downpipe could be a factor? I was thinking along the lines of a leaky hose but then 2nd seemed ok.

Will go to the private track this evening to investigate further and try the other gears.

wouldn't go to mad with testing it onm your private track till its checked out, could as said be a simple matter of needing a reset, but also could be a sensor issue

Re: She seems to be holding back in 5th..

Been so busy never got a chance to follow this up. After a bit of an experiment yesterday, 4th seems to do the same though not as much. I really suspect a vacuum leak somewhere. Could a dump valve on its way out do this? (I suppose a turbo related pipework could).

I had the downpipe changed a few months back. Could the fact that the downpipe bell housing attaching to the turbo exhaust outlest is a much larger opening allowing the turbo to spin with less presure cause overboosting?
The intercooler was removed to put the downpipe on. I guess I need to check all the hoses are on securely..

Any comments or suggestions welcome..

Cheers, Angelo
