Air filter problems

Hi, I've just fitted a front mount intercooler and induction kit to my jap import 01 sti, and the car will not run properly, it's not revving fully, revs going up and down when idling and just not running right! I was told it could be the air flow meter.
If anyone can help I'd be so greatful cos this is drivin me nuts!!!

Re: Air filter problems

I went over all the connections and they're all tight. The induction kit is a cone shaped one with a chrome pipe that has the mount for the air flow meter. I got it on ebay. I think it's an oily one.

The car works fine now with the maf plugged out. Can I leave it out altogether or will this damage something? The car goes like a rocket now though!!!

It is not advisable to drive too long with a failed maf, as this can cause fuelling issues, so take it easy until the problem is solved.

Id clean the maf sensor and if that fails get a new one as for the air filters dont know might be best getting a cheap afermarket one as i know the k&n's and green cotton has their filters slightly oiled but then if you get an aftermarket one car might not run great..................... but just thinking if you had a k&n or a green cotton filter you could get the cleaning kit wash oil off and not re oil it....................

You could get a k&n cleaning kit for it should still do the same and not damage the apexi air filter, you should try Alyn in ''AS performance'' look it up in this site think he does the mapping or ring ''scooby clinic''
