Hi all
just wondering if the knock sensor picks up detonation due to low octane fuel or to much air to fuel mixture and by running it lean, does it flash the check engine light when it detonates when driving be interested to hear????? heard it makes the check engine light flash in a classic dont know how true it is...............................
like to find out about this cheers..................

Re: KNOCK SENSOR

Knock sensor as you say is there to detect detonation. this is often a result of using fuel that is of too low an octane content or running lean for other reasons. It will usually retard the ignition to prevent any damage being done to the engine so even if the CEL didn't flash you'd know there was a problem. I'd imagine though it would show up as it is listed as code 22 when doing a diagnostic check. Having said that, when my MAF was shot it never flashed up once.
