Hi Guys,

Actually looking at buying a scoob for the first time, hoped to get some valuable info first!

Drove a 94 WRX Sti Import at the weekend, very quick!

I wondered if the local experts might offer their thoughts on the below, I have the useful checklist having read a few posts before logging in:

Jap import 94 WRX STI, standard, body work clean, 107,000Km (about 60k miles, some UK history but no jap service history so can't verify, does it sound about right?!?!)

Noticed a water/coolant leak which the dealer said he would sort, they are replacing the water pump and cam belt (apparently that has to come off to change it anyway). It had the Clutch replaced recently. Comes with 6 months warranty, all for £4k..

My worries

1) Why does it need the clutch replacing, is this not quite early, or should I be content with a brand new clutch?
2) Is the milage likely to be false?
3) Do the water pumps have a habit of going or is this a good indicator to steer clear?
4) Any thing particular (apart from the usual in the checklist) I should look for bearing in mind the above?

Thanks for our expert advice guys, cannot wait to get myself a scoob!

Clutches can last a while or not long at all depends how theyre driven, enough launches will kill a clutch in a short while,on a car used alot on the motorway would last ages-seems about right to me that one though-had one in mine around 40,000mile before changing.

Imports have usually a bit of history at least, theres usually tell tale signs of either abuse/high mileage you`d be able to spot though.

Water pumps go on all cars, would agree it seems early though to be honest not sure when theyre usually replaced.

Gearbox problems are expensive make sure the gearchange itself is ok it should be fairly uniform through all gears though reverse can be awkward but its normal.

just the usual other than that check for blue smoke on overun(when ya lift off accelerator) out exhaust usually points to nackered turbo, black smoke though not loads of its fairly normal when youre booting it thats just your money(i mean fuel)out the exhaust other than that any strange noises an warning lights staying on-cant really think of much else

By the way usually when the clutch is changed the flywheels changed at the same time worth checking if the flywheels been skimmed or replaced-not ideal if its had neither.

Well had a look at a couple of other cars but ended up buying this one after an AA inspection came back with an all clear in general. there were a few things but they were small and acillaries rather than anything else.

Driven it a bit and very impressed, they actually did the work I wanted them to at the garage too including a new cam belt etc etc, which looks like a bit of a bar steward to do....I may be wrong but very happy with it!

Looking forward to the weekend!!!

Re: Looking at buying a scoob

i changed my clutch, cv joints at around 60k on my old classic that i used to have seems the norm to be honest. 6 mnths warranty is not bad for a 4k motor though, make sure it covers everything mechanically though.
