Hi guys!

I am thinking on buying a 1998 Impreza with about 100000 Km. Can you tell me how reliable is this car and what could be its main problems?

The car I'm thinking to by its obviously the 2.0 turbo

Thanks guys

on a 98 look out for piston slap on cold startup, will dissappear once warm. not really that big an issue mines got it on 110k and pulls more like wrx than uk turbo. barganing (sp) tool more than anything.

performance car so look for accident damage next.

what you looking at wrx, sti, uk ? if uk its knocking on a bit so would look out for rust in bumper supports etc.

at that mileage suspension will be worn a bit etc etc just the usuall second hand car checks - smoke when booting it, gearbox whines, fluid condition etc

cant really judge by looking at pics. couple of points though:

the wagon should have a phase 2 engine which is very very slightly better standard, and shouldnt have any noises on cold startup. if you go down modifying route it can take ecuteck remap, no idle valve getting in the way of fitting sti 8 top mount etc, vented rear disc as std, four pot calipers up front. my99 commonly suffer from maf failures apparently.

the saloon if 98 will need complete replacement ecu if you decided to map it etc., two pot front brakes. if it is prodrive like it says it is pull up passenger footwell carpet and ecu cover plate. ecu should have pink sti sticker on it, look for prodrive silicon hose between turbo and intercooler too.
