How is a Subaru vehicle?

Ok i'm trying to look into this subaru thing. There's a 2002 Subaru Impreza with 68,000 mi. for sale that i'm thinking about purchasing. The only thing holding me back is that I have no idea about how good of a car a Subaru is, all I know is that they are fast. I'm just looking to hear about how well the Subaru runs and what some common problems with this model are. I recently sold my 1993 Honda Accord which everybody knows Honda's last forever so I'm just wondering if I can count on a Subaru to be at least close to as dependable as my Honda was

a well looked after scoob will do 150k miles +, a badly looked after one (including how its driven) will last 150 miles.

regular oil changes, regular servicing and they go and go.

i do drive mine fairly, um, spiritedly lol, and always let it warm up an cool down before giving it beans and its always been on top form, when i havn't destroyed the gearbox lol.

they are seriously fast in standard form compared to most cars, and then if you want to get into the modding side, well your only liumited by the depth of your pockets

honda to subaru hmm depends how its driven/been driven and like the others have said how its been looked after,if youve no patience(or money)be careful hondas are generally bombproof-scoobys arent love mine to bits but it will cost you more in servicing, repairs etc than a honda, that said the fun factors enormous at times however it comes at a price.

Yer but thats hardly like for like is it,like saying a ferraris faster than a fiesta err obviously 2ltr turbo 4wd better than equivalent fwd normally aspirated who`d have thought At least compare them to a sapphire cosworth or something at least its more of a fair comparison .........now then is a std uk impreza turbo much quicker and when did saph`s come out its just a choice subaru other manufacturers make/made comparable cars, though theres still some equivalent yr hot hatches thats gonna give ya a run for ya money on the straight with a std scooby, i reckon unless you own at least an sti (or have had alot of mods)a scooby aint that mad a car performance wise.

Weak gearboxes(usually syncro trouble leading to bigger hassles) and weaker pistons/cranks If youre in the market for an impreza and can afford sti insurance get an sti to start with, you generally find the ppl with std uk cars end up modding them to near on sti spec to be happy with them anyway and generally the sti`s are an all round stronger package.

sticking pressure relief valve can be a problem on oil pump aswell-not sure if this were modified on later cars but were an issue on classics hence places like roger clark motorsport doing a modified one to try an resolve the issue.

o-ring between power steering reservoir/power steering pump ive known leak on a few

Usual sensors packing up like any other car maf/crank/cam/lambda though can diagnose these an if not ppl on here or scoobynet will generally explain whats wrong-its rare nobody`s had the problem before.

I find its rare you have sml problems its generally engine ie pistons/crank/headgasket failure or gearbox-nackered syncros, lost gears + strange noises........eh tidgy

Know all this sounds bad but to be fair its a performance car-you get performance car bills with em.

If folks want reliable all the time try an audi or bmw.
