Window tints
 

Good afternoon all,

I saw a bugeye with all rear windows blacked out, really liked the idea of having it done, spoke to a local company who will do it to my car and he said they wont do the front side windows black, tbut hey will do them to the legal smoke tint though.

Who has there windows tinted, what are the benefits and downside of having them done.

I have mine done 35% all the way around. It definitely helps keep the sunlight out; and also gives your car a better look. It can be a pain at night sometimes when you are trying to back out.

just got a quote, £300 plus vat for legal front windows, and any colour back windows, do i go for smoked or Black

Get the better quality tint. The cheap stuff will turn purple.

the company is a professional one and he said the tints wont change colour, think im going to go black on the back. Will post pics this week, he can do it from wed onwards.

I'd personally get it the same all the way around. I think it looks funny two different shades. Know what I mean? Your car will look much better nonetheless.

it doesnt look to bad, i think the jap imported sti's had rear windows tinted black with the coat hanger spoiler. Could be wrong, but it does look pretty good

What percentage is legal there?

When I looked into it, pretty much any tint film applied to the front side windows will be illegal in the UK. The maximum tint on the front side windows can only block 30% of the available light, not allow 30% as is often quoted. As the glass normally has a slight tint already, even the lightest tint film makes the windows illegal.

I had a car with tinted windows for four years (which I had applied). I found it reduced the heat in summer quite a bit, and it reduced glare from the headlamps of following cars at night.

My wagon has the rears tinted, and is HERE. It does make reversing more difficult at night, but on my last car I added an extra reversing light (actually a front fog lamp) and this helped. It probably isn't practical on an Impreza. My last car was a Honda CR-V, and I installed the light next to the rear diff.

I have a legal tinited visor on my motorcycle helmet... it's 30%.. and believe it or not, it works fantastically.
The other half's leon cupra has a dark tint on the rear, and lighter at the front.. I always feel depressed when i'm in his car as it makes everything outside look so dull! lol ( or maybe thats just through being sat in a cr@ppy car !):lol:
