Alfa owner seeks Subaru to add to Family!

Greetings All,

Im looking for an Impreza WRX Sportwagon - 2002 or later , heres an example.

http://www.adgsevenoaks.co.uk/vehicl...=196739&popup=

Im a snowboarder in the Winter months so i think an Impreza Sportwagon would be perfect for the trip to France from the UK. Also I want to use the Impreza as a main car so i can relegate my Alfa to the Garage ready for an upgrade to a 3.2 V6 version...yum

Lookin to spend 8000 on the prez. Bought a book on buying an Impreza but wanted to know what to look for . I heard the service intervals are quite narrow and there is a belt issue on the engines to look out for.

Any help gratefully received...

Cheers Kidz

Hi,

1. Subaru-Impreza.org - Buying an Impreza Checklist Link:http://www.subaru-impreza.org/impreza-checklist.html

2. Subaru suggested maintenance schedules Link: http://www.subaru-impreza.org/bbs/sh...ad.php?t=21403

Hope the links help

Cam belt? as long as you change the belt on the service intervals you should have no problem.

Only 2 things to watch out for on imprezas the engines and the gearboxes .........ok maybe im being a bit negative but generally are more prone to failure if abused/neglected, later cars arent so bad, sti`s are stronger in all areas and are generally accepted as being the impreza to get in any generation of impreza.
Main thing get a hpi check ok so its not 100% reliable however if you do it with hpi themselves will pay out up to about 10k i think it is if its found to be dodgy after theyve said it were ok.
watch out for a notchyness between gears and reluctancy to be selected-syncro is on its way out,if the clutch is slipping or getting that way the flywheel generally has to be changed aswell as clutch unless its good enough to be skimmed ie no cracks-works out a bit expensive.
obviously check the usual any strange noises from engine blue smoke on overun is turbo on its way generally though a puff of black smoke may be apparent on a modded car on acceleration and is pretty much normal -just fuel.
Not sure if this happens on a bugeye as much as classic shape scoobys but there could be a sml amount of transmission judder sometimes when pulling off slow, this is normal but irritating havent had it since i changed my clutch an flywheel but used to get it now an again.
obviously look for full subaru service history or at least servicing by a specialists if ya can, think thats about it mate.
