weird and worrying brake pedal feel.

noticed over the past few days that when i brake hard and push down the pedal, as it gets close to the floor the pressure that you normally feel on your foot is replaced by a hard crunchy gravelly feeling on my foot. it's as if i've pushed passed the point where the brake pedal works because the pressure is replced by a crunchy feeling. i will get it looked at after crimbo when garages re-open, but can anyone suggest what might be causing it and is it dangerous, as i'm travelling some distance in the car over the next few days.

might be a build up of crap from the pads mate, does it make any noise?

no noise, just a crunchy gravelly feeling on my foot. only happens when travelling say over 30mph. the pedal pressure suddenly feels lighter and the pedal feels like it goes a bit further to the floor. i have noticed it briefly a while back but put it down breaking on a slippery surface so did not take much notice. i think it happens more when the car is heading down hill or on a slight slope, i suppose there is then more weight/inertia for the brakes to deal with.

tbh mate i`m not sure, have you checked you`re fluids? it might also be worth taking you`re wheels off and having a look just to see that all`s ok, or even take the pads out and knock any flakes of the brake pad material off them, it might just be that still just not at a sufficient level to make a noise

You could have air in the system.
