Blowout at high speed

Hi All,

Had a scary moment thursday, booting it down the A34 just past Oxford runnign late to see a customer, and the rear drivers side tyre blew out on me!

I've never had a blowout before and I dont know the "correct" plan of action either and the car started fishtailing on me.. I held the steering wheel as straight as i could and eventually got it under control and got off the road into a ditch to change my underwear.

Thinking about it now I'm convinced it was the AWD system compensating for the blowout that saved me from the central barriers and a face full of steering wheel.

Another reason in my mind why scoobys are deffo the car for me ! I reckon most other cars ( with drivers who don't know what to do in those situations ) would have come off far worse !!

All i've got to show for it is 1 red shocker thats now black with burnt rubber and a bill of £80 for a replacement !

I didn't half look a fool though driving along at 50MPH max all day with my 17" bright yellow temp wheel next to my shiny 18" rota's

all 4 tyres were bought only 5months ago fitted to my alloys from scoobyworld so they are hardly used at all .

if i'd have thought about it i'd have kept the blown one and at least asked for something but I left it at a garage on the day !

brown pants moment, glad all ok now though.

might be worthj getting in touch with the manufacturer adn having a natter, may get a free tyre out of it, or they may be interested to try to find out what caused it

What pressure did you have in the tyres? just a thought
The bloke who fitted my tyres put 36 psi in.

not sure on the tyre pressure, i have to admit i don't check that often but there were no vibrations etc under normal driving .

just a freak incident i suppose ! at least i'm still here to tell the tale with the car in 1 piece
