Intercooler spray

This may be a daft question, but do you simply fill up the intercooler spray bottle with plain water?
During the test drive the salesman told me it wasn't plain water, it has something else added & costs around 6 notes per bottle.
Is this true or is he just winding me up ?

From what I have been reading, it seems like it should be distilled water, but the thing to think about is water freezing..... I could sound intelligent by saying engine mounted water would be hotter than boot mounted, but.....

Here's a link....

I think the problem with using plain tap water is, due to hardness may clog up the pipes in time.. I may be wrong.....

LOL, I was under the impression the intercooler water spray was the same bottle as the windscreen wash bottle, thus you would have screen wash added.

Also if it was freezing cold you wouldn't need to use the IC water spray anyway!!! PMSL!!!

yes but if you don't put something in it and you have water in the pipes and it freezes it could split the pipes surely

Apparently it should state in the user manual that you should use distilled water...

I asked at Subaru...

Water expansion if it does freeze, never had it myself but as it only used when your going to let rip or in traffic jams you dont need much coolant.
