Impreza engine compability

Hi! I wonder if i can put 1997 wrx japan model ej20k engine to my 2001 euro wrx which has ej20 engine also. One guy said i have to change valve cover, why? What about engine control unit, wires etc. Engine is non abs and in my car there is abs.
And power splitter is in that 1997 engine on top of the intake manifold and in my car i dont even know, maybe under intake manifold?
