how would you spend 500/600 on first upgardes/mods??

hi there. been a little while since i've posted anything. been on my jollies with nobby248 for over a month in thialand, have come back with a stinking cold (no, it is not bird flu) . been sitting around searching on here and thinking about my subaru warranty expiry date in 1 month. as stated in the heading i have a few notes to throw around, perhaps some of you could help me decide how to spend it on my scoob.
my car, 1999 classic u.k 2L turbo. it is currently standard apart from a ninja back box.

probable possibilities....more power being the main reasoning.
1. decat down or centre pipe (not sure which one best, pros/cons etc).
2. VTA dump valve (for fun, not power, you'vew got to try one at some point! 8) ).
3. panel filter?? (a green one or something??)

if anyone could possibly add or advise this would be great.
cheers in advance, BB.

Nobby said you enjoyed Thailand (something about not wanting to leave)

I would do downpipe and centre replacing the CAT with a sports CAT if worried about emissions.
Green panel filter is very good as well.
VTA big woosh = HKS, mild woosh = Forge

thanks for replies.
so, sports cats in both pipes? or is it possible to have a semi decat and still pass MOT? i know that the larger cat is in the down pipe so i imagine that more power increase could be gained from removing it? but by being the bigger cat would this cause more probs with emissions test? would i be wrong in saying that by going for a long drive before a test would remedy this problem?

by the way, subaru have just told me that my heater matrix is split and needs replacing! pi$$y smell coming out when heating on  . lucky i have 1 month warranty left

back to original question, can anyone suggest any other possible mods for my money?

You just need the one. I would suggest replacing the centre with a sports cat and have a straight through Downpipe (no cat)...

Go for a ECUTEK as warranty is not an issue

Tec3 remap is 650.
300 for licence and 350 for mapper..
From your area I think Bob Rawle at Swindon is the closes and one of the best mappers in the country. http://www.brdevelopments.com/

I do however have a STI MY99 ECU that is already licenced up for sale next week.
