triangle tyres?

Hi guys,

Picked up my 330S Hatch on Friday. I'm well pleased with it!

However, the rear tyres were pretty much bald when I test drove the car, and the dealer told me they would replace them.
Well.. they did.. but they have put on what appear to be some cheap cr**p chinese brand tyres I haven't heard of
Triangle Talon TR968

I think the front's are Dunlops.
Anyone know what the original tyres should be on the 330S, and what would you guys recommend going for?

My fronts will probably need changed in a few k miles, so I'm not looking forward to the expense of 4x new 18" tyres.

Re: triangle tyres?

You're absolutely right. Triangle are cheap rubbish. I'd have them off. Best 'mod' for any car is proper tyres. I'd consider good year f1, toyo t1r or verdestein ultrac Setantas. If also be having a word with the dealer and ask him how he can fit such rubbish to a performance car. If it was me I wouldn't have accepted it with those on....

Re: triangle tyres?

check the speed rating of the triangles, if they arent correct for your car then they are putting your life at risk, good angle for quality replacements.

Re: triangle tyres?

Thanks guys, I think I'll start saving my pennies to replace them. I've had Eagle F1's before and liked them so probably look at going back to that.
It was dark when I collected the car and didn't notice which tyres they had put on. I did ask the salesman but he "didn't know".
When I saw them the next day I did complain but they said "we understand your concerns and will get back to you on this" - but I'm not holding my breath for a positive outcome.

Re: triangle tyres?

I wrote a letter to the dealer and told them I wasn't happy with the tyres.
Got an e-mail response today saying they are willing to give me 75 per tyre towards replacing them with Goodyear Eagle F1's
They've quoted 146 each for the F1's which seems reasonable, leaving me with just over 70 per tyre to pay for the swap.

I've decided to go with this.

Re: triangle tyres?

Sort of.. not really.
I did get a letter back saying they were investigating, but then nothing for about a month. So I phoned them and apparently someone called Adrian Hogg was dealing with my case. He told me they had asked the dealership to respond to me on their behalf, and sounded like they didn't want to be involved. I pushed him to speak to the dealer, and he said he would... but I had to chase him for days to get him to do this, and ultimately he seemed like he couldn't be bothered, and eventually came back saying the dealer wasn't going to budge.

He did tell me that the dealership shouldn't have used those tyres as they could cause issues with the transmission.
I asked if this would invalidate any warranty claims relating to the transmission, and he told me my car is not covered under a Subaru warranty..
Apparently the "Genuine 1 Year Subaru Warranty" that my car was advertised with is not actually a Subaru warranty, but is instead with AutoProtect.

Re: triangle tyres?

Well, I was in at the dealer this morning to get the rear tyres swapped over.
Cost me 147 in total for two new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym2's.

Arrived at dealer 8:20am. Car was taken in at 8:30am as per pre-booking in time.
Completion of fitting both tyres: 10am !!!
They said the tyres were incredibly tight to fit but I can't understand it taking that long.

Re: triangle tyres?

Well, i've now had a chance to drive the car properly with the new tyres, and what a differences. Totally transforms the car. Pushing it into a corner it just grips and holds on. Haven't pushed it to the limit yet until my confidence on these tyres increases but so far so good.

However, I've also had a chance to closely inspect the alloys in the daylight, and both now have light scratch marks all over, and one has several deeper scratches that look like it's been keyed.
Beyond what could be considered as carelessness. Very annoyed about this, but half expected the garage to do something like that after my earlier complaints.

I guess the guys at Ian Grieves were just getting their own back.
