Hi guys,
My car seems to be consuming oil pretty quickly. [2006 STi PPP 2.5L] 3 weeks ago, checked and was ok 2 weeks ago, checked was @ low mark - took 2.5L to get back to max mark 1 week ago, checked and was ok today, checked was @ low mark again No sign of oil leaking out anywhere. Can't feel any lack in power, or noticed any changes in performance, or any unusual rattling or sounds. mpg is still the same as per normal @ 22mpg. no change in level of coolant, or visible sign of oil in coolant. I don't use the car that much, but starting to use it more now that the winter is coming in and my bike has to go away. The car had the head gaskets done about a year ago, and has done about 6k since then. I'm going to get it back to the guys who did the head gasket for inspection, but any ideas what the problem could be? David

Re: where is my oil going?
It's a 2.5, do a Google It's common to use a litre per 1000 miles, they (subaru) think this is normal,
Has it changed over time or recently just started using it?

Re: where is my oil going?
It's using a fair bit more than a litre per 1000 miles!
That's 4 weeks and it's used 5L I'm doing about 200 miles per week so 5L in 800 miles I don't think that's normal even for a 2.5 !

Re: where is my oil going?
Haven't noticed any blue smoke
Checked expansion bottle again last night and I thought it looked a bit cloudy. I'm wondering if the head gasket has gone again but surely not in just a year?

Re: where is my oil going?
If the work was done right then no, But if the pistons are still standard it could be a issue with rings or. Even a cracked piston, the 2.5 has had issues,
Your right talking to the garage that did the work and see what they think.

Re: where is my oil going?
no they weren't done.
one point. i've been using 5w30 oil - would this be too thin? I'm reading a lot of conflicting opinions on the oil to use. garage that did the work just told me to use 15w50 ?
