newbie help required

hi everyone,
just after some advice really, im thinking about buying a hawkeye wrx in the near future i have no previous impreza knowledge as i have been mainly a german car man until now, hopefully i will never look back. can anyone tell me how reliable these engines/carsi have seen a few bits about head gaskets being a failure point although when i did more digging it seams to be the non turbo versions (and mainly in america) and i assumed they improved the standard of them for the performance market, also is there any good advice/buyers guide for this model
many thanks for any information

Welcome to the site,
Here's a checklist that will help when looking - Subaru Impreza - Buying Checklist
Try and find one with a full service history that hasn't been messed with and the engine should be solid. If you want a Scooby you definitely should go for the turbo version

Good luck mate, if it makes you feel any better my Scoob is up at 145k miles and is running great.

Re: newbie help required

Lots of good scoobs around and the prices have never been so good - in the buyers favour.. Hawkeyes are a nice looking model IMHO. Full history is a must, dont be put off if work has been done by a specialist as they are in most cases more reliable than a Subaru dealer. As standard as possible is nice - exhaust/panel filter aside. Check out a Subaru approved car, more than the general market value but you get an excellent warranty and a good history with the car. This is how I got mine after looking at others in the private sector, 3 years touch wood and I love it. Panels on scoobies are quite thin so dings are sometimes difficult to avoid. Plenty of experts on here to help you out, if u buy privately ask a specialist to check it over - could be the best 100 sheets you ever spent. Dont rush into the purchase - so many good one out their. Cheers and good luck - Ben.

Re: newbie help required

cheers for the great advice does anyone know of a specialist that would look over a possible car in the southern area (wiltshire) there are lots for sale at the moment and the prices seem really good value for money wise so much car for the money when you almost have to pay double for a similar age/spec golf r32, are all the hawkeyes high tax bracket or are the 55 plate ones lower and is the cambelt done on mileage or calender service many thanks

Re: newbie help required

Not sure of any specialist in your area tbh. Cambelt is done on either mileage or age, which ever comes first so a 55 plate should of had this done. From what I understand its the tensioner that lets go before the belt. Yep all round its hard to beat the Scooby for the , and owning mine has been cheaper than my Clio Williams (petrol aside).

You could give Gary at North Motor Company a call (01962771331), they are in Winchester and are Scooby specialists, i have always used them, they are trustworthy and reasonable too
