ECU CHIP?

Hi everyone,

I have just purchased a 94 WRX type RA and was hoping somebody with a lot more knowladge than me can help me out. Im from N. Ireland and our highest rated fuel over here is 97ron and im a bit concerned about that as i know they dont run the best on it, ive been using Millers octane booster the few times ive been driving the car but ive read that a chip can be put in the ecu that makes it safer for uk fuel and generally makes it run better. According to what ive read so far a polar performance chip is the way to go but i cant seem to get one anywhere!! Is there anyone who sells a good chip for my car? Took the ECU out yesterday and its a z5 4 plug ecu and when i opened it up it seems to have a blank board for a chip already there. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: ECU CHIP?

Thanks for getting back to me. I wasnt sure if the 97 ron was high enough as i know these were mapped on 100 ron in Japan. Was just concerned about detonation problems and didnt want to ruin the engine. Have been using the octane booster but i know there must be some sort of chip out there for the ecu mapped for our fuel. No optimax 98 ron or tesco 99 over here.

Re: ECU CHIP?

get an esl board fitted and mapped its the best and safest way bud. the chips are normally flashed for specific mods and u would have to know which mods and make sure u have the same ones ie a front mount ic, walbro pump, 440 injectors that kind of thing. if u dont have the same mods it will run like a bag of nails most likely and probably cause damage as the fuelling etc will be all wrong.

Re: ECU CHIP?

97 wont be high enough for an import RA (all RA are imports), best option will be an esl chip and map.
