AWD TO 2WD?

Right i fancy doing something abit different so ive got my mind on converting to 2 wheel drive, whether it be rear wheel or front wheel drive i dont mind, obviously rear wheel drive would be more fun but for ease i reckon it will have to be front wheel, is it as simple as removing the centre part of the propshaft so the rear axle can spin freely? are there sensors on the axle that will cause the car illuminate the engine management light and possibly go into limp mode? has anyone done anything like this before?

It is possible and i've heard there are a few ways of doing it. I've heard of the way you suggested - removing the front drive shafts, but i think you have to cover the gearbox and then join the wheels to the gearbox some other way. also have to be careful with the center diff as there will be a lot more power going through it.

But it is possible.

Ive now spoken to a few people about this and it seems like a lot of hassle, although i should imagine it would make it much more fun to drive, although the car feels very sure footed with the 4x4 and boosts confidence on the bends. hmmmmmm maybe il just leave it for now.
