speedo and induction help imported 1995 turbo wagon

first post so bare with me if some of my questions make you say " oh not again"

right firstly i have mph clocks fitted that are way out, im assuming they have not been converted so showing wrong mph, is it just as simple as putting a converter on the rear of the clocks?

secondly the car has a full decat exhaust(wrapped at the turbo end for some reason) with the original air box fitted, would adding a performance air filter or induction kit require the car to start being tuned, also im hearing alot about early models not being able to be remapped, whats the usual course of action here, dont want to spend a fortune but i would like a bit more power without straining the engine.

lastly seeing as ive just acquired the car where should i be looking for previous upgrades already done to it.

all help greatly received

Re: speedo and induction help imported 1995 turbo wagon

Hello and welcome.

You will need to get a converter fitted to get the clocks reading correctly. Just fitting an MPH speedo will not have the speedo reading in MPH. However, fitting a converter now might not work either as the increments on the UK speedo are spaced differently. Afaik most converters use the original clocks as it will just recalculate the incoming signal so that it outputs in MPH. I still have the Kph clocks in mine with a converter and it is spot on. If the increments on your current clocks are the same as standard then you will be ok.

With regards to the filter, if you are keeping the top mount intercooler then stick with the original airbox and just pop an uprated panel filter in like a green, cosworth or K&N. Some cars don't seem to like induction kits for some reason. The ECU in your car (assuming it is standard) can't be mapped but you can get something like the ESL daughter board which will enable it to be mapped. However, with a full de-cat it may have been, and certainly should have been, mapped so take a look at the ECU to see if it standard. This is located in the passenger footwell under a plate.

Ok thanks il order a performance filter now and keep the original box.

Heres a few pics,

I take it that is a standard ecu so my car should ideally have a aftermarket one and be remapped as i have the decat fitted?
What kind of bov do i have, I.E recirc ect.
Can you tell by the pic what turbo i have?
What the frig is that red thing and is it illegal or dangerous lol?
What is a daughter board and how much money are we talking?
A finally a pic of my car.

Thanks in advance
