Dump/Blow off valve as standard ??

This may be a really stupid question but .........

On a 2.5 wrx is there a dump/blow off valve fitted as standard ? I have been looking at a 'standard' car at a garage and whilst on the test drive the sound of a dump valve operating between upward shifts was very noticeable, i asked the salesman if this was a standard thing and he wasn't sure (vauxhall garage so they don't shift many impreza's) but when looking myself i found a 'Forge' dump valve fitted.

Just wanted to know if this was standard fit or if this is an addition or upgrade to the car.

So there should be no 'dump' sound then with a standard one ?

What are the benefits of having the dump valve ?

Have the standard one fitted if you like the car as part of the purchase price. Nil benefits from what I can gather on a standard car other than a Woosh! Standard is more reliable and better suited, a panel filter will give slight gains whilst also maintaining reliablility and improving the range sound.

Thanks for the info, i'll be sure to bargain in a standard valve. Might see if i can get the aftermarket one as a 'spare' and shift it on ebay

Running rich ??? would that cause a tiny black puff on start up ?

The car i am looking at is a 2005/55 plate 2.5 wrx with 29k miles on the clock but when it was started there was a tiny puff of black smoke at initial turnover when started - something to worry about ??

Re: Dump/Blow off valve as standard ??

Running rich basically means the ecu is putting more fuel in so what doesn't get ignited gets chucked out you exhaust pipe wasting abit of fuel yeah I guess it could lead to black smoke if it ignites in the exhaust nothing to worry abt if your going back to standard dump cos the car will go back to normal running
