transco (or whoever your main gas people are) should come out for free pete if you say you can smell leaking gas.... they do around these parts anyhow... security first!

Yes they do BUT they will only make it safe. i.e. cut off supply until leak fixed. Then charge to reconnect.
Anything after the meter is your responsability.........

I am going to do the soapy water bit if that show nowt then call in the Proffesionals (complete with 3ltr Capri )

Morning All!!!

***enter CORGI registered engineer***

Actually Peter, Transco will actually diagnose where the gas leak is coming from and rectify if it is a simple job. They have 30 mins to work on each householders situation.

9 times out of 10 they will shut the installation/appliance down, and you will have to send for a CORGI registered guy, but Transco are the gas emergency service and should be called first in most situations.

Their number - 0800 111 999

As for ya mate sorting it out, make sure it is all above board. 8)

Any person who touches a gas appliance or part of the gas installation is held solely responsible for that appliance. So make sure your mate gives you a certificate for works taken out fixing the problem, including his CORGI number and serial number. Also make sure his insurance (should be 3 million public liability) covers him for off the job works!!!

Without it, you haven't got a leg to stand on, should anything arise in the future!!!

Tread very carefully with gas these days guys, heavy fines and jail sentences are nothing short of what have been handed out for people not complying with CORGI!!!

Have a good day all,

Rich
