Personally, I would go with a used one. It will be guaranteed for a month and you will know if it is likely to be dud after a few days in which case send it back. You can buy 5 second hands ones...

As it runs ok once started I would say that the main mechanics of the engine are fine. No need to change spark plugs, etc.

Is it trying to start, ie the engine turns over but it just wont...

Go and get the right size o ring. No point in hoping the oversized ring will be ok and you will never know if it causing another problem. No sure about fouling the O2 sensor. If it wasnt running...

MAF is the usual favourite for stalling at junctions etc. Unplug it and see is the engine carries on running or cuts out. You make need to reset the CEL though. Also, what fuel you using. V-power...

You have got your answer from Subaru and from your symptoms - the suspension is fecked on one side. THe quote from Subaru is probably for both sides to be changed as you should change the suspension...

It needs tightening up then. Not sure of the exact tension, but the deflections should only be minimal. I think around 5mm. Bob will tell you the best way to check, but a quarter turn is way too...

Try changing the fuel filter. A blocked filter can really affect starting, making it take a lot longer and sound strange until it builds up some pressure to force the fuel past the filter. Mine...
