My 106 GTi
Hey all, I thought i would share some pictures of my 106, she is a 1998 GTI, One of the first of the GTI's to be given the leather/alacantra seats!
The Mods include: - Lowered 45mm - 15'' Toora T940 Wheels - Magnex SS Exhaust - Magnex Decat - OMP Front Upper Strut Brace - EBC grooved discs - EBC Greenstuff Pads - Raceland 206/307 induction kit (Fitted better) - Alpine Head Unit - French style Number plates It is brilliant fun, it is one of the last proper hot hatches, no weight, no safety features, 16 Valves...... Anyway, heres the pics, they are about 8 months old, so not all of the mods are fitted, but its still nice! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Right mate if im honest were 200% more confident about the limits of the 106 than i am of the scooby its a weird thing getting a car with a fair bit more weight and twice as capable with 4wd you think it`d be easy to get used to but if im honest this aint as sorted for me "yet" as the 106 were, im not 100% happy with the suspension and for hard driving the brakes either-dont give it loads of hammer neither at the top end as ive got a full decat but`s never seen the rollers or been remapped so as is still unsure about the general state of tune-fair enough its ok but there are niggles with some things but there`ll be no top speed runs untill i get a front mount an have it mapped and just made sure everythings ok (as do believe the theory about the bonnet scoop and top mounts over 100mph being ineffective as airflow or most of it misses the scoop raising induction temps raising the risk of det etc)-mate blew his twice once when i`d past him at around 120 rang me up saying it were knocking again an i didnt believe him thought it were a ploy to pass me-till we got the car bk to his place-werent good.To an extent always got that fear of something packing up when i boot it since i had a problem with 5th gear when it had done just 33,000miles-it dont inspire confidence somehow

By the way luke dont know how hard ya suspension is on yours but ya know the fuel pump cut off button(red one near bulkhead folks)if ya car ever cuts out after yav hit a hard pothole or bump its that
i took mine off an joined the wires together on a couple of bullet conectors, did me head in after a bit (may save ya if ya ever break down with it coz the buttons do pack up eventually though if working ok one press will get pump working again)Last edited by uk dave; 17 Apr 2007 at 09:17 PM. |

ha ha, i havent had the fuel cut off happen to me yet, but i did have the engine mount bolt shear on me though! after a pot hole incident, caused LOADS of vibration!
its all sweet now though!Thats interesting about the suspension on the scooby! Are they quite a handfull if they dont have a good suspension set up? You do get alot of confidence from the 106's, and the tail end almost never lets go, as you probably remember from yours Dave. Luke

Luke you aint pushing hard enough mate lol under late braking into islands used to lose mine regularly in fact lost bk end of mine coming out of an island racing a VR6 once overtook him on the inside just got by him 2/3 of the way round the island an off she went(were by him already though luckily)-held it an when we pulled up at the next lights the guy wound window down an said that were cool chap (but trust me sideways out of an island werent intentional but hey if it looked it who am i to argue)just laughed an gave a smug grin like i go round it like that all the time .................................................. .................then once me heartrate had slowed down i pulled off from the lights
![]() Really want to drive my scooby like i drove my 106 but whereas with the 106 you get a bit of warning "to an extent" with a scooby its all or nothing you`ve for a start gotta be fully comitted or it aint hapnin-i know ppl who`s come from rear wheel drive cars that find them easy to get used to on the limit but personally can drive a 106gti with a lot more confidence than the scooby on the limits of each. ha ha, it has had its moments, and i think the heavy breaking moments are because of the brake bias valve in the rear, always happens to lowered pugs apparently, over compensates the braking at the rear cuz it thinks it has lots of weight at the back.....those moments are the scary ones when it gets all wiggly!

yer i know your supposed to have the load sensor spring jobby re-calibrated to be right but to be honest quite liked it pmsl bit like how valentino rossi rides his bike in moto gp
bk ends all over the place into corners under braking-to be honest though that could be a wasted reference on here as i dont know how many ppl`s into bikes. |
