Re: Welcome greengirl joins our Forums...

Hello,

Just purchase my first ever Subaru. A 2006 Inpreza Sport Wagon, Steel Gray 70K miles. Used Subies are somewhat hard to find in South Carolina and a few got away before we could look at them. Had to go the North Carolina to find one and bought it before someone else.

I love the way it drives, amazing and safe.

Now here comes the scary part. This Subie came from New Jersey and to my horror it is rusty underneath, has rust on the brakes and what has me concerned is some rust on the bolts that hold the front seats to the floor , and some rust on the rails for the drivers seat.

What do you think of my rust problem, is it very bad . I have heard of stuff you can get to stop rust. Please be kind and understand that I am comparing it to my 10 year old Honda Civic and underneath it all the bolts are still shiny.

Whew!!! Thanks stiimpreza1984.

I really love this Subie and want to keep it on the road a long time . Honda Civics are OK untill someone runs into to you at a junction and then you want a safer car.

Hello carwisperer ,

Thanks for the tip about wax oil . I checked the capet and it is not wet, not now any way. I am taking Subie to my machanic as I was lucky enough to get a 30 day warranty on this wonderful car. I will have them check under the carpet of the foot wells too. Thanks !!!!!!!!

Re: Welcome greengirl joins our Forums...

Hi and welcome to .org
As above, it looks like surface rust so nothing to worry about yet. Best advice is to rub it off with a wire brush or wire wheel on a drill and underseal & Wax Oyl. If you're planning on keeping the car then remove the door cards and Wax Oyl the doors and inner rear wings. A good jet wash under the car as future maintenance will help prevent further corrosion.
The brake calipers can be removed and painted, there is alsorts of colours available, which will make them look much better and prevent rusting.
Hope this helps.

Hello Matt-WRX-Import,

Thanks for the very good advise . I want to make this Subie last a long time. I love it more every time I drive it. No more Honda's for me.
