Red face how to best drive my new sub!

hello, i have just purchased a impreza rx (2009) i've NEVER driven a sub before and its a big step up from my old hyuandi!! its a manual.. i seem to stall it occasionally at lights and stuff, is there something special i need to be doing, i don't really understand the rev talk an the whole X over 100 thing, if someone could advise in an easily understandable language would just some simple clear instruction, that would be great!! also the blue water light that goes off, should i not drive it until that goes off and is there anything i can do to on start up that would make it more fuel efficient?? wow a hundred questions! i appreciate any assistance, thanks in advance

Blue water light? post a picture,
Stalling it is down to not enough revs when you lift the clutch, nothing special required just more revs so it doesnt stall,
why do you think its using extra fuel on start up ?

Re: how to best drive my new sub!

hey technical_bob thanks for you response, ok rev more, got it. the blue light, which i can get a photo of over the wkend, looks like the water thing with three or four horizontal lines next to it, it goes off after a few minutes.. i realise that it's uses more fuel then my hyuandi did and i love it do death so i certainly won't stop driving it but someone mentioned something about the engine, when you start it you can turn something on to push air around or out the engine betta and doing this also provides longevity for the engine.. does that make sense?? i just want to make sure that i am doing everything right! also when i turn it on, more revs so it turns straight on?? doesn't hurt it, does it?

Re: how to best drive my new sub!

I think u mean warming the car up and down?
You dont just start the car and thrash it, you have to let the fluids warm up etc before you start giving it the beans, and then the same after you have been on a good drive, just stay off boost for 3 or 4 miles from home and then let it rest for a further 2 mins once home IMHO,
I am not a fan of turbo timers,
Still not sure what the blue light is though, the only blue light I can think of is for main beam but I cant imagine you mean that as its the same on all cars, even a Hyundai.

Re: how to best drive my new sub!

Queensland eh,nice

the mpg on your sub is

Fuel consumption (ADR81/02)2 combined (l/100km) 8.9

Fuel consumption (ADR81/02)2 urban (l/100km) 11.8

Fuel consumption (ADR81/02)2 extra urban (l/100km) 7.2

the only way to reduce your fuel useage is to drive like miss daisey

looks like the people that have spoken to you previously had been refering the the models with turbos...

you'll also notice a differance as i have a feeling your previous car had a smaller engine,so fuel economy would have alot better..

fuel info is here :- Subaru Impreza - Subaru Australia

that could be the preset radio stations or the CD stacker unit

most of us are based in the UK
