Hellow
I've got a Subaru impreza GL 4W/ drive 1.8 automatic,+-1995,
Only 94000km,it starts perfectly in the morning then if i stop at a robot it chokes and i cannot restart it.When i take one of the plug wires off and put a spark plug in it has no spark, after waiting 20-to -30 minutes it starts.
I've read on the net about the crank sensor and cam sensor could be faulty or dirty,i think something is telling the coil pack not to spark.
Has this model of car got a computer or ECU or module that is faulty
Can anyone send me a electrical wiring diagram
It seams to be a heat sensing fault as this problem does'nt occur after driving more than about 15km
Thanks Guys would appreciate any advice
Robi

Re: robi

Hi
If you don't have the previous service history change the coil packs and the leads, leads go brittle with age preventing a spark when it gets hot.

Re: robi

the choking and not restarting could well be the CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor)a popular issues, it tells the ecu the engines temp and tells it to turn the "Choke " off.

Re: robi

When i say the engine chokes i mean it dies and there is no spark on any of the plugs
I wonder what will happen if i disconnect the engine coolent tempreature sensor as there is a temp guage which i can monitor on the dashboard

Re: robi

I've located the (coolent tempreature sensor) (CTS) and measured the resistance there when the engine was cold=2650 ohm, when the engine is hot=250 ohm.
So the CTSis working,Choke operates when cold and engine speed drops when hot.
But when the car stalls after start up within 20miutes i still cannot start it again,Ive tried tricking the ECM into thinking the engine is hot by putting a 250ohm resistor into the CTS plug but when it stalls, not a hell will it start again
If there was a loose connection between ECM and ignitor then thiis problem would happen at speed,of course it does't stall at speed
There is a (i think idle air mixture) solenoid valve just before the air intake when i unplug that the engine stalls and i have to wait 20-30 minutes before it will restart
Maybe this info will give somebody a clue as to what i can do to fix this problem
Cheers

Question Re: robi

There's an electrical box under the dash with the markings (MM
31 711 AC982
A64 000DN2 5313)
UNISIA JECS
What is this?
Its got 3 plugs with a hell-a-va lot of wires going into a printed cicuit board

I cleaned the idle air control valve to try and prevent the car from stalling,,I'm testing it at the moment,so I don't have to wait 30 minutes each time it stalls
Cheers

I'm glad you got it sorted, sounds like he's took on a rally cross .

Did you try and get the mechanic to sort out the windscreen and chipped bonnet as you shouldn't have to pay for the damage?
