What am I doing here?

"It seemed like a good Idea at the time" Is my only excuse to why I bought a Subaru, but really, it makes sense!

Hi I'm the Jackal,
Last week my daily driver had its big end go, after a day of poking the engine with a stick, surrounded by my friends we concluded we couldn’t fix it. They didn’t even come down to help me with my car, they were there for me to fit a full set of 2012 STI Brembo callipers to their 2011 WRX. Sadly the Brembos were not fitted and I was now car-less the Jackal.
So I needed a car quick, something that wasn’t any slower than my normal daily driver, that wasn’t going to explode on me and could deal with the horrible weather forecast for the next few weeks. Sadly, my daily driver was a Fiat coupé 20VT pulling 241BHP, so when I found out one of my friends was selling his 1996 WRX import, it ticked all the boxes!

So now I’m here, new to owning a Subaru, but not new to owning an import, this time last month my daily driver was a M*******i FTO, which found a patch of ice on the way to work and landed upside down in a field. So the Impreza is fantastic, it handles as well as (if not better than) the FTO, has the indicators on the RIGHT side of the steering wheel and the power of the fiat.

Can I ask you guys something? What am I supposed to do with this car?
She’s pretty old and they’re getting pretty rare, she’s in an immaculate condition, should I try to restore here and keep her standard or should I make her my own, modify her to my own tastes. I don’t want to post pictures of one of my mods and have someone say:

“OMG HOW COULD YOU?”
Or
“You’ve just devalued your car completely with that modification”

What do you guys think?

Also, I’ll get photographs of the 'Beast' for you this weekend if you like.

Regards
The Jackal

Re: What am I doing here?

I say if you don't like the look of it mod it to the way you want it to look, just be careful when buying spoilers there is a lot of rubbish quality ones out there.
It doesnt really matter what other people think of your car as long as you like it.

Originally I was going to go the rally car look with my first impreza which was mica blue which got written off last year, now im starting again and planning a colour change from silver to black with heavy metal style stickers. Sounds horrible but it will look really cool when finished, trouble is it will be the most recognisable scooby.

each and every owner puts their twist on their scoob, making it stand out from the rest, bit like mine, was the 1st one of the particular colour round here, over the years 3 more arrived and have since departed, but mine always too out from the rest, could be somet to do with the carbon fire on it ...

here's a picture of the old girl.

And here are some more low quality pictures taken with my blackberry, it's the only time I could see her in daylight hours.

Can you guys tell me what bits are standard and what looks modified?
I know the stereo is aftermarket and fitted in japan because the wires are twisted together and tape wraped and is looking in the japanese FM radio band. Also, the gear knob is a spare fiat one I had lying round, the one that came with it is aluminium... too cold for this weather.

Re: What am I doing here?

Thanks, it it's AM it's going to get sprayed this weekend, now... should it be black or red? anyone good with photoshop?

Also thanks, I didnt know the links were broken, and sorry again for the low res pics, maybe I'll get some better ones once the wheels are on.

one other thing, any ideas if the exhaust from a 2011 WRX might fit a 1996 one? That straight through stainless exhaust in nice. But it gets REALLY anoying on long trips... like... 12 minutes or longer. If you dont know I'll have a look tomorrow.

As promised:

New wheels and better picture.
