Southern Big One – Scoobies only – Summer 2005

Why should we let the Northerners have all the fun???

I’m at the early stages of planning a massive (maybe up to 500 cars) Scooby only event in the Central Southern area this summer. Venue, date & details to be confirmed, but it is likely to be around Reading/ Newbury/ Oxford area as it is very central and easy access via motorways. I’m looking to organise this at the height of summer – so July/ August maybe.

This idea has the backing of SIDC and I am working in collaboration with various other Regional Organisers from the South.

As this would be an event for you – the Scooby Community then I’d like to get an idea of what you’d like to see there and also to gauge your interest – so please post with any ideas and indeed if you could be interested in attending. My plan is for a free-entry event with Trade stands and Show & Shine and maybe Sound-Off Competitions. Also raising monies for Charity.

Please post on this thread with ideas on the following: -

 Location/ Venue – that can accommodate 500 cars.
 Trade Stands – any companies you can recommend to be invited.
 Things to do – what would you like to see there to keep everyone entertained (serious suggestions only please).
 Charities that could be supported.
 Anything else at all that you think maybe of interest to the organisers.
And post if you’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for your help. Once a venue and date is confirmed then a new, official thread will be started.

Thanks

Terry

Love the idea

May I make a few comments that may help as I have had experience with this kind of thing before.
you are looking for a pretty large place, most of these are likely to charge for the use of their land , so making it a free event may prove difficult.
Dont " invite" traders on, make em pay, they will make loads of money at the event, and by them paying for a "pitch" (sold in set sizes- in multiples if needed) it will bring in needed money to pay for advertising, postage, prizes, hiring of porta loos( and emptying) etc.etc.etc
You may have to take out public liability insurance too.
have you thought about approacing Prodrive, as they have a fair sized chunk of land there? And its in the area you are thinking of.
Or may be santa pod, they have the room and all the facilities?

Think you will defenatly need to lay on things for kids and " not overly interested other halfs like mine

just a few thoughts, and count me in

Thanks for that Buzz - uselful info - I have approached Prodrive already - I think that would be ideal - but not sure if they can play ball. Also as for costs - then definately charge the trade stands.

Cheers

Just a thought - how about the test track that is out in Chobham - plenty of space there - but not sure what the place is called - could find out though

Right folks

Date & Venue decided and provisionally booked.

Sunday 3rd July at Beale Wildlife Park near Reading and very easy access from J12 of M4. Map here

I was really hoping to use a venue such as an Airfield and hold a 1/4 mile drag strip - but alas there just isn't enough time to be able to confirm that this could take place this summer and I want to give you all as much notice as possible. However plans will be laid for such an event next year

As well as a large parking area (field) and trade stands, you will get discounted access to the Wildlife Park itself.

I don't want to commit to too many details just yet as I am going to meet the Events lady at Beale Park on Monday 21st Feb. After then I will confirm details and start a new thread - just want to keep you all posted on progress so far.

Many thanks

Terry
