Ancro Championship 23rd October 2004
Hello all, looks as if we have just got some advertising on the Ancro 2004 Rally (next ones in Swansea on the 17th July)
- the deal is, we provide some plugs and the Subaru Rally car has some stickers put on.(of the web address)... Heres a reposnse from Mike Panes (A collegue) who co-drives the Scoob.... ##################### If you want something on the car, not a problem. I've a great vinyls guy in Swansea we use for all our decent graphic stuff so if you want something decent, or you just want some graphics done, the address is alan@vsigns.co.uk. Tell him I sent you and he'll get things done a lot quicker than if you rang in cold. For a rear window sticker - sun visor style, (can't do front screen cos we need to run with the championship logo) and something in the front wings, would be no problem for some plugs etc. The guy is only 22 and won the British Junior Championship in 1999. He's very quick and is getting a lot more confident. Last weekend was only his second event on gravel in a 4wd so that'll give you an idea of the ability. (came in 6th) I'll get something done regarding a pre event release next month, and anything of interest in between. All you need to do is arrange for the vinyl to be done. Alan can give me a shout if you ask him to do it and I'll arrange getting it onto the car. Mike ################################################## ################ Heres the Newsltter from the car the stickers will be going on ################################################## ################ Mutiny Rally – ANCRO Championship 2004 David Wright / Mike Panes Car 35 13th Overall 6th in Class Bentham youngster Dave Wright achieved an excellent result this weekend with a credible 6th place in the highly contested GpN 4 class of the ANCRO National Championship on the Mutiny Rally based in Builth Wells . Following on from his first gravel Rally, the Red Dragon, based in the Neath Valley when the crew finished 5th overall and won GpN, Wright and Panes were in determined mood to keep the good run on track. A very high calibre entry for Round 4 of the ANCRO National Championship saw no less than 35 GpN starters. After some excellent driving and some inventive repair solutions by the service crew, Dave finished a credible 6th in class on only his second gravel event and first GpN Subaru home. Wright and co-driver Mike Panes had a fraught start to the rally with an intermittently working handbrake which caused one spin and two overshoots at hairpins on the first stage with a loss of some 20 seconds, leaving them in by Dave’s standards, a poor 22nd and 9th in the class. After some adjustment to the brakes, the crew set off on a mission, getting the car into the top 15 of the rally. Stage 2 was totally different from the very slippery and narrow stages of Radnor. Wider roads and lots of dust gave an impression of good grip but the roads were very slippery with the dry gravel acting like marbles, however, the Yokohama tyres were doing a great job and crew were gaining confidence in the car as they began to catch up on the leaders. A blinding stage 3 saw Dave 2nd fastest GpN, and the battle up the leader board began to heat up. At the second service halt, the crew were up to 13th overall, a jump of 9 places over the 5 stages. Stage 7 was the longest of the day at 13.8 miles. Some very rough areas were causing havoc underneath the car, which effectively ended the charge up the leader board, when after hitting a particularly large rock in the middle of the road, the exhaust manifold sheared. Some sterling work in the emergency service area saw the crew able to continue, but with a down on power car. Going into the last stage of the day with just 9 seconds in hand ensured the fight was going down to the wire. Fellow GpN runner Nick Elsmore was determined to catch Wright and made a determined effort but in vain. Losing just one second, despite being stuck in 3rd gear when the selector broke, probably a legacy of hitting the rock in stage 7, gave the Yokohama supported Subaru Impreza of Wright / Panes a well deserved 6th in class and 13th overall. |
