2001 bugeye high miles remap tuning advice

Hi guys
I have a 2001 bugeye wagon which is a great car but just feels a bit lacking in performance. It's my first skoobie so I have nothing to compare except a mate has a Megane R26 F1 which feels much quicker and responsive.

I would like to start with a simple re-map as the car is completely stock but I'm a bit concerned as it's got 100,000 on the clock.
It drives really tight and it does have solid history, and has always been completely stock which makes me think some gentle tuning would be possible.
If you didn't know the miles it feels like a car with half the mileage.

So, should I or shouldn't I? What do you think, is it too much of a risk?
If no, what and who do you recommend? How far should I go with it?
BTW its my daily driver and I'm not looking for race car performance!

Thanks!

Mines a 95 classic with more miles than yours and still drives great.
If you're happy with the condition of the car and it's not smoking or anything then yeah I'd consider it. You say it's been serviced regularly, oil every 5k miles ?
I would look to change the air filter to a performance panel filter, maybe a stainless exhaust and downpipe. If you're worried about the MOT then get a performance CAT included.
Then go for the remap at the same time.
For the remap, talk to Duncan (dynamix) on the forum.

Hi, this is also the route Im considering going down when funds permit.. I also drive a bugeye, with the supporting mods of a panel filter and exhaust the info I have been given is to expect circa 270BHP with the car feeling more responsive in the lower rev range. Also Im sure the 3 port solenoid is essential.

Yes the condition is good and no smoke. It doesn't seem to use any oil either which is surprising.
So a remap filter and downpipe will take it to approx 270 and more responsive low down?
If thats a yes, then the car will be perfect!
BTW
What is a 3 port solenoid?

This enables the boost to be controlled with more precision over the 2 port presently on a UK WRX. Perrin offer a well respected one for about £80. But the mapper will be able to offer the most sound advice so no worries their.

Re: 2001 bugeye high miles remap tuning advice

Hi

I have mapped scoobies with lots more miles than 100k will no ill effects - hopefully it has been well looked after and in which case it shouldnt be an issue for it.

The 3 port will give much better boost and boost control and is really needed on bug wrxs - I can supply at the time of mapping for £70 fitted so making the total including mapping £420.
