WRX STI running gear swap into a Cortina

Im in the middle of installing all the engine gearox and running gear from a N-reg WRX STI into a Ford cortina.. I have been offered all the running gear from a 1999 newer shape WRX - My question is " Are all the parts inter-changable"

I have grafted the innerwings, bulkhead etc into the Cortina and will only buy the newer eqt(which is in better condition than I have) if I can findout that they defo fit..

I have been watching different items on ebay and noticed that coilovers are listed as for one model or the other.

Brakes seem to be interchangeable - so long as wheel size is not an issue????

I want to keep the N-reg engine - just swap everything else.

I dont know anything about Subaru's and the more I read the more confusing it seems to get ---so any advice will be appreciated....

Anyone interested in the build check out "Any other 4wd cortinas" on BuySell Cortina or "Subrina" on Photobucket

Thanks

Re: WRX STI running gear swap into a Cortina

sweet conversion chap
nice to see a tina with something other than a V6,V8 or cossie shoved in it..
most impreza parts are fully interchangeable throughout the versions as are some legacy parts..

Re: WRX STI running gear swap into a Cortina

1st of all Thanks for the positive comments--

Iv got my facts wrong -- The car that have a chance of buying is a 57-plate WRX..not a 2009 .

Same question again then... The parts that I have grafted onto my cortina are all from a N-reg WRX STI ,,, I now want to replace the -gearbox, driveshafts, hubs, brakes, complete front and rear suspension, inc all arms/links and rear diff from the 57 plate WRX.

All the Nreg mounting points are now welded into the cortina - so i need to be sure that the 57 eqt mounts are the same.

I want to keep the Nreg engine, ECU, wiring harness..

I didnt expect any one to be interested in an old cortina - I will keep posting pictures and updates if the interest is there..

Thanks

Check if you have a pull or push type clutch. Think the later one the opposite from the older. Just a matter of taking gearbox clutch and flywheel and changing the whole assembly for the other. Hope this helps

Re: WRX STI running gear swap into a Cortina

I have not updated this for a while. Anyway the answer is yes, All running gear from a 07 model fits a classic. The rear strutt mounts need a little adjustment,, The steering rack has a different spline and you need the clutch slave cylinder. Other than that everything else bolts straight in.

Heres a couple of photos.
Full detailed build on BuySellCortina - members cars.

Impreza front end welded in

Engine in

Gear box and tunnel in

rear axle in

Pedal box and steering in

starting to fit everything before I strip to paint

Like I said - full rebuild on BSCortina.

I will keep adding updates if your interested.

Re: WRX STI running gear swap into a Cortina

spot on

got a feeling the standard impreza wheels, may give others a few ideas of whats powering the "tina",aftermarket rims and it's possibly one of the best "sleeper motors" about

Loving this project, used to have a Mk5 Cortina many years ago.
Can't wait to see the finished article !!
