TD04 Tuning

Hi Guys,

Got a impreza wrx import running a TD04 turbo, all the imprezas ive had have been TD05.

I am looking to slightly increase the power of the car but needed a few pointers.

What do i need for a remap (ie ECU type)?
Looking to fit a De-cat downpipe or equal length headers Which is the best option and will keep the renowned scooby rumble?
I have a walbro 255 fuel pump and a cat back full stainless.

I fitted a manual boost controller as i have with all my imprezas (i usually set it to 10-12 psi) I dont really use it to increase the boost i just find the turbo spools better etc. I cannot seem to get this one to set at 10 or 12psi it seems to be either 6psi or 14psi (too low or too much) no matter how small my adjustments. When set at 14 psi 1st and 2nd gear seem to only give me 5-6psi and 3rd gear plus go up to 14psi very strange. (Any ideas as to why would be great guys).
When run on the standard boost controller i get 10 psi bang on every gear.

Cheers Danny.

Re: TD04 Tuning

sometimes adjusting the wastegate actuator arm can help acheive required levels of boost. A remap is better than any manual boost controller and is safe. A manual boost control is generally not safe. A good panel filter and your decat combined with a remap will make a huge difference. If you fit equal length headers you will lose the burble but gain more power - your call really

Re: TD04 Tuning

Ok Shambles thanks for that, would i need a different ecu or piggyback or can mine be remapped, and would the headers gain me more safe power than just a de-cat would.

It is a 1995 wrx import bob.

Cheers Guys

Re: TD04 Tuning

yeah 95wrx will have a td05, it basicly needs mapping, trying to up the boost in anyother way doesn;t allow the correct fuel and timing to be set.

a ESL daughter board and then custom map will be the best option you can go for
