Std Airbox or K&N Filter ?

I have got a 2001 bugeye..

fast flow manafold pipes,
Fast flow cat downpipe
Decat middle and end exhaust

booked in for a ecu remap 2 weeks.

Have got a K&N Filter fitted, have just managed to pick up a standard air box, with a new cosworth filter..

Which one would be best to run with?

I am more interested in first 3 gears than top speed.

Most ppl will say airbox/panel filter though i prefer conefilters-down to personal preference really however K+N arent that popular on scooby`s due to being heavily oiled and affecting maf readings due to oil vapour getting on the maf element, were mainly a problem on late classic shape scoobys though.(think they changed the maf`s on bugs so may be ok)

Re: Std Airbox or K&N Filter ?

Hi, i have a k & n panel filter on mine ,which was the first thing i bought on the way home after buying my scooby last november.I must have bought at least 20 k & n filters in the last 15 years and not had any probs.Dave you sure its not people buying the 57i kits as the normal panel filter is quite restrictive compared to an induction system. Not had any probs with mine since i had it,and the car was bog standard when i bought it,maybe i am just lucky.

Standard air box and green cotton filter.... more than adequate for upto 350 hp IMHO

MAF is very sensative and fitting some heavily oiled filters can cause failure

Will be keeping my standard air box and green filter on until day of my ECU change to Simtek... I can then get rid of the MAF when Simtek fitted

standard airbox all the way, modified to flow more if needed.

induction kits sound nice, but suffer from lower speed heat soak, can cause issues with oil on the maf and also alter the airflow path across the maf so map will need adjusting accordingly.
