VF28 Upgrade for classic 97-98

Thinking of buying a vf28... is it a direct replacement for a Td04? without any fitting issues??

And how much do they go for used???

And what do they top out at HP wise????

And has anyone got one for sale

It is a direct bolt on /bolt off replacement for the TD04,can sell for between£250 - £300 secondhand,1 went on pistonheads for £120 gutted.
Powerwise not sure, but my mate has 1 fitted to his P1 and that kickin 355 bhp.

Cheers buddy... that helps thank you

I thought is was but just needed confirmation... looking at a vf 23 on Pistonheads, it gives much more power than the 28 but is the same mount

Re: VF28 Upgrade for classic 97-98

Yes mate it does, i am looking at getting a vf23/24 myself, i have just had a brand new td04 fitted 3 weeks ago(£70),and along with the full japspeed decat and centre pipe, along with the afterburner vortex, panel filter and walbro fuel pump this is kicking out 237 bhp on a rolling road. I know that performance from individual cars vary, but the thing that has stopped me spending £600 to get it mapped is i read recently a lad with similar mods to my car and 2 years younger model with less miles on the clock had his car mapped and it returned 260 bhp.So spending £600 for another 30+ bhp dont seem sense.
I am not looking for mega power,300 bhp tops,so a vf23 should get me nearer to that figure than my trusty td04.

Re: VF28 Upgrade for classic 97-98

by having it mapped he's done exactly the right thing. Its not about the power increase, its about makign the engien run safe.

if you change the turbo you MUST get it mapped for it, it will totaly change the airflow and stuff up the afr. dont get it mapped and i hope you have £2000 for an engine rebuild because thats worst case.

Re: VF28 Upgrade for classic 97-98

The turbo i changed was exactly the same as the one i took off , and the only reason i changed it was because i got a brand spanking new TD04 for £70.00,so it seemed pointless having it mapped, and even if i did get it mapped next week , i would expect it to hit around 270 bhp.
Far easier to buy a vf 23,sell my brand new(200 miles)td04,and then get that remapped instead.
If the engine was to go bang,i would not bother with a rebuild,i would spend £2000 on a sti unit - job done.

ahh right, i thought you ment someone had changed from a td04 to a vf23 without mapping.

second hand engines are always a risk, you never know the true history so you never know how its been treated
