Change of direction

want to do something different with my scoob 96 gc8 , does any one know any probs that would come up if made it rwd, know 4x4 is better.

was thinking,
just taking out front driveshafts, but might ruinin diff or bend propshaft.

also was thinking of pulling apart front and doing major facelift (snout from 2006/7 model) on gc8, lights etc, think would also need arches and bonnet, how compatable would this be as new cars are alot bigger.

comments please even if u think it would look shit!

Re: Change of direction

A bloke i know bought a rwd classic, needed work doing on diff or new rear driveshafts cant remember which, no parts he bought matched with the rest of running gear. After changing every thing so as to make it all fit together it only lasted a couple of weeks and knackered itself again, i dont know if it was too much power going through just one set of wheels that did it or what, he gave up in the end and got rid, shame really i guess it would have been great fun to drive

Re: Change of direction

As Rubix said^^^^^ and Sti's have a power distribution of 35%front 65% power to the rear or 36/64 someone might quote me on that looked at 2 sites they quoting different specs, most of the power is to the rear anyway bud so I wouldnt start messing around with it sure Subaru would have made it Full RWD if they thought it would handle better, but it would put a lot of strain on that propshaft and diff cause its suppose to run a constant AWD so all the strain will be on the 2 driven wheels than all 4 I wouldnt mess with it

Re: Change of direction

There are a lot of RWD Imprezas here which are used for drifiting, but for an Impreza to go RWD requires a fair amount of modification and setting up. Remember the whole car, from the running gear to the suspension, is set up for 4 wheel drive. If you want RWD would suggest you sell the Scoob and get a Nissan Sylvia.

As for the cosmetic alterations, would definitely leave off. Imo, the classic has by far the best looking front end of all the Imprezas, and despite their other ntable qulities, the new age cars are just not very handsome cars.
