Re: 1996 wrx restriction

All JDM vehicles are restricted to 180 Kmh (112 mph) so will need de-restricting and also a converter so your speedo reads in Mph and not Kmh.Dont need to do anything witht he ECU. Your car has a cable operated speedo so will need to get yourself a mechanical converter to go in the speedo cable behind the clocks.

Re: 1996 wrx restriction

my jap import the same, as said above you need to get a de- restrictor (de- limiter) and that will let you rev car in 5th gear or 6th depending on box al the way to red line for top speed.....................

Re: 1996 wrx restriction

Nothing to do with the ECU at all, which is a good thing coz a new ECU and map will cost a fair bit more than the converter.

As for Milsport, owner is a guy called Ralph. Is a regular contributor on another site and is very knowledgable. You'll have no problems dealing with him.

The UK 99 classic has 2 cat's. 1 on the down pipe and 1 on the centre section. The centre section cat is the one being the less restrictive of the two and the most common one to be removed + your car will still pass an mot with this one removed.

Re: 1996 wrx restriction

do u think removing the cat will ruin the turbo or engine. ive just bought the car an give it a bit of fuellin an as it picked up the revs the car was kickin back an forth if understand like too much fuel for turbo but dont no wot it was. it all standard im told except dump valve but thought turbo brokje. not smokin or anythin

By running a free flowing exhaust turbo back might make it boost slighty higher but you should get it mapped for this, talk to Alyn in AS performance he a member of the site he v helpfull, as with the kickin back in 4th could be aftermarket dump valve put standard back on might help worth a try...............

Re: 1996 wrx restriction

it could be a sticky actuator that could cause the jerkiness aswell
