1998 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 Help

Hello all what a great forum!

so just got myself a 1998 subaru impreza turbo 2000! and wow its great!

anyway. the car is standard even has standard air filter.

what sort of mods could i do to the car?? also it has a oval shaped exhaust not a big 3'' or 5'' bore. would getting a fatter exhaust make much difference?

any help would be great! Thanks!!

Re: 1998 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 Help

welcome.

unfortunately the 1998 model needs the ECU replaced to allow it to be remapped to see the full gains from any mods.

If you still have the standard catalyst converter, replacing that with a hi-flow sports cat (100 cell) or de-cat you will notice it will be more responsive lower in the rev range along with replacing the paper air filter with a Green Cotton filter available from scoobyparts.com. It is recommend that after any mods the car is remapped.

yes you will need it remapped, you will probably need to find out what the best ECU is for your car and budget.

also. the person i brought the car off said the car had been remapped but i really dont belive it. so if it had the ecu would have been changed wouldnt it. if i look at the ecu is there any signs to say it has been changed?

Andy Forrest seems to recommend the Apexi Power FC ECU
according to his site he can fit and remap it for 895 he is one of the best mappers in the UK. click here >> AndyForrestPerformance

yes you can tell if the ECU has been changed post the details (whats printed on it) up on this forum then someone will be able to tell you exactly what you have installed.

Re: 1998 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 Help

Dont think a 98 can be mapped even via ESL (never used to be) so maybe aftermarket ecu is only option. which to go for is very much dependant on budget and what you want from it.
