WRX 300 Tuning

Hi folks,

This is my first post here, and if the topic has already been covered elsewhere then please forgive me/redirect me to the right thread!

I have a 2005 WRX 300 (265bhp) which I'm looking to modify. Is there a definitive guide to modding this model, or can you advise me here? The car is a standard 300 model. I'd really like to improve its top end performance in particular. I've never modded a car before.

Many thanks in advance,
Chris

Welcome fella

the famous 1st question

start off breathing the engine, high flow filter,sport/de cat, free flow exhaust, fuel pump...basic and easy stuff 1st..then remap...
then progress to bigger turbo, injectors, oil cooler, bigger top mount intercooler or front mount,
suspension ie:- bushes, droplinks, arb's,springs or coilovers, brakes, wheels tyres the list goes on and on..all depends on what power figures you want and how much you want to spend..

Thanks for the welcome and the info! Regarding the early stages you mentioned, are these safe for the car? I don't want to do anything that could damage it. If I go for the air filter, exhaust, pump and remap, will the car work within healthy parameters? Thanks.

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

The preliminary mods - air filter, exhaust and fuel pump with a remap - these will not be detrimental to the health of the car? I don't want to do anything that will damage my Scooby or shorten its life.

Could you recommend a make/model for the pump, air filter and exhaust please?

Many thanks.

Air filter either Green or K&N.
Exhaust is down to preferable choice,Hayward Scott,Scorpion(prodrive fit on PPP's motors),Afterburner(Scoobyworld),Magnex,Blitz,HKS. .the list goes on
most common choice of pump is the Walbro 255,but there are alternatives..
The basic mods will not harm the motor in anyway as long as installed properly and mapped correctly..

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

Thanks, Pilot! Since the WRX300 is Prodrive modified from new, does that mean that only the Scorpion downpipe is suitable, or the others too? And is the downpipe also known as the Turbo Up Pipe, because that's the only Scorpion pipe I can find? Sorry if stupid questions.

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

I have been scouring the Web and can't find most of the downpipes, but I did find this at Scoobyworld: Impreza Turbo 2001-2005 New Age : Subaru Impreza Ninja Downpipe with Fast Flow 100 Cell Sports Cat

Do you think it's any good?

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

Brilliant diagram - thanks! So at this stage I just need the downpipe? (Cat is further along system and want to keep the car legal)

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

best bet is to decat the rest of the system the,the cat on the down pipe is the main cat..i personally run with a sport cat,but it's need to be red hot for the MOT..

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

Hi Pilot,

Just speaking about the exhaust, what will the power gains be like if I simply change the downpipe but leave the cats there?

Re: WRX 300 Tuning

tbh it won't be that great by just doing the above, the real gains are then the full system including headers, filter and pump are replaced + remap, could be lookin iro 50ish bhp,all depends on what it's running now,you notice a bigger increase in the torque of the motor, the higher the torque the better the driveability in general
