Problem: Cooling/Heating Fan don't work!

Hi All,

I was driving around my stylish 1997 impreza this past saturday when the blower fan suddenly quit! I tried moving the knob up and downto no avail. I've checked the fuse box and none of the fuses for heating or cooling fans are blown, the engine isn't overheating, the AC compressor starts up fine, there is just no fan to blow the air out of the vents in the car. Is this just my blower fan quitting, or could there be another problem? And if any of you have had this problem and had it fixed, would you have any idea of the approx. cost?

thanks!

hi star sister, you could get an electrician (or someone with a bit osf electrical skill) to meter out the fan motor to see if the windings are ok, strsange it hasnt taken out the fuse  have you checked all the fuses per chance? there are some under the bonnet (hood) as well as below the dash panel.
Check out too the switch is ok.

As for cost, sorry cant help as am the wrong side of the pond, but please keep us posted

You should have a regulator that adjust the speed of you fan sometimes these blow and you get nothing on the first few settings of the fan control but if the fan still does not work on full setting (this bypasses the regulator for full fan speed)and you have power to the fan then you will find a new fan is requied if no power to fan then most prob a fuse relay cut wire problem.

well I checked all the fuses... nothing blown, which is decidedly weird. Though if I remember correctly, the fan was making an annoying whine in the days before it went. Either way I'm going to have my mechanic check it out after my July 4 holiday.... Given as I'm not particular about the AC in the car anyway, it's a not a big deal. Will update when mechanic tells me whats wrong.
