How to clean aircon system ?

I need to clean the aircon filter as it just plain stinks when the aircon is on nowadays.

I don't feel like driving 60 miles to the Subaru dealer and the manual doesn't say where the damn pollenfilter is located bar "you should visit the official Subaru dealer". :x

Can anybody tell me how I can get the thing cleaned ? Where is it located ? (I've seen a big fan in the passenger footwell, but it doesn't look like the place where somebody would have fitted a pollenfilter).

I know there are some products I can introduce into the system to kill bacteria. Via where should I get that into the system ?

Many thanks !!

Hi 1999Turbo,

There's two types of cleaning to an aircon. One is the entire system's fluids and dryer. That needs to be done every few years and indeed needs indeed attention of a pro.

The other one is just the (pollen)filter. After a while, dust etc starts to gather there and bacteria start to grow, especially when the system is not used often, e.g. in winter. They give a (VERY) bad smell when the aircon is switched on.

There are many cleaning products available in retail to clean the filter. The issue is that most of them either require you to spray them into the air intake of the system, or to get the filter out and clean the filter.

It's that  filter I am trying to locate in the scoob.

There sure must be someone on this forum who knows where it's hidden :?:

HEEEEELPPPP !!!!!

Just tried that. Nothing like a filter or filter compartment behind the gloveboc. Only a type of round box that looks like it holds a fan.
