changing the gear knob on 53 wrx?

Hi, does anyone know how to change the stock gearknob on a wrx to a prodrive wr sport one. It looks to me as though you have to take the whole piece of trim around the gearstick off to change it, any answer to this little problem is most appreciated, cheers, Mark. :?

If it's the same as a classic you just undo the knob and then it will just unclip from the gaiter.

MOMO

Hi,
:?
just got an 02 wrx, thought about a momo gear knob, but wondered how the gaiter would sit up to the new knob. it looks like you might be able to see the cuts in the leather when the momo one is on.
cheers

Hi Rob.
Bought a momo gear knob for my 02, I didnít like it the gaiter would not attach to the momo knob  So I put the standard one back

If you put a couple of cable ties around the gear stick then wrap insulation tape aroound the cable ties(so they can grip) you can build up a grip ring and the gaitor will stay up. I did it on mine and you can remove it afterwards if you want to.

Cheap fix I found.

If you get a genuine aftermarket one from Subaru the gaiter just clips into the end of the knob. I brought the Momo one and fitted it in 2mins.
