Help! My speedo dial has gone mental

Took apart the front of the dash to get to the speedo to have a look at the light bulbs behind it, and after realising I coudn't get the actaul speedo plate off I put it back together.

Now the speedo dial is making a horrible clicking sound and dancing all over the place when the car is in motion. It no longer rests on 0mph but straight downwards.

Any idea what I've gone and done and how to sort it? I'm really annoyed! Ive spent hours trying to fix it

sounds like you haven`t got the speedo cable back in right, as they are a mechanical drive

Re: Help! My speedo dial has gone mental

Does anyone have any diagrams or instructions on where to find the cable? I'm pretty sure I didn't unplug it as I didn't take the whole thing out but it may have come unplugged accidently when I was moving the dials around.

you cant miss it fella, its a none electrical connection, it looks like a brake cable from a push bike coming thru the bulkhead, very solid, it may have come unplugged from your kph/mph convertor or something daft

Re: Help! My speedo dial has gone mental

Whats the best way of getting the whole head out to take a look behind it? Presumably the speedo cable is attached to the back of it but after taking everything off I can only get the head to come half way out?

(yes I am aware how dirty that sounds!)
