how to remove the subaru head unit 2004 wrx wagon

i have just got a 2004 wrx sl wagon and the fobs only work if you hold the key in the center of the windscreen the guy i got it from has had new fobs new batteries and has had them recoded

someone has said the reciever is behind the head unit and needs to be moved up towards the screen???

anyone else heard this before dont want to waste any time

does this happen all the time no matter where it is parked or only in certain areas.

I know my classic does this when I park outside Asda or Maplin due to radio interference so I either lock the door with the key or put the fob right up to the receiver to get it to work. When that fails I have to enter the code.
