Impreza WRX 2003

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a 2003 Impreza WRX with 73k on the clock. The car is very clean inside and out, the only thing that is putting me off is that it has had the engine rebuilt last year due to it being run dry of oil and currently has an oil leak which is apparently the rocker covers leaking after the engine rebuild. The owner who seems a very genuine guy says one of the crank shells was spinning with the crank and thus needing a set of new shells and the crank polishing. Which he has receipts for.

Is this a big problem, do these engines tend to do this and need a re-build at this kind of mileage? If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Mike

Re: Impreza WRX 2003

Do u know the reason why it was low on oil. If it was neglect walk away, maybe an engine issue caused the low oil which then caused the issue then maybe it's not neglect. Also depends if it cheap or wether he wants top money, try and get price down. Ulimatly if ifs bothering you now it always will. Walk away.

Re: Impreza WRX 2003

who did the rebuild is a question I would ask also,
If its been done by a reputable tuner then a small rocker cover leak is nothing to sort(most classics seem to leak and people still buy those)
If its been rebuilt by the right people and is cheap then its got to be worth a look.

Re: Impreza WRX 2003

th erocker leak is easy to cure also, i had one on my classic wagon, it was a sunday and couldnt get a new gasket so i removed it carefully, cleaned the gasket and put a thin bead of instant gasket the black silcone one that dried perminantly 6 months later it was fine with no leaks, even fitting new gaskets i always use a small bead of instant gasket also, makes sure its sealed that way

Re: Impreza WRX 2003

Thanks all for your advice, i have decided to be keep looking, all in all with the stuff whcih needed doing i.e tax, mot, it was adding another 1000 onto the value of the car therefore wasn't worth it unfortunatly.

Anyhow still on the lookout.

Cheers again

Mike
